DATASET 03 / ANNUAL WORKBOOK SNAPSHOT
Distribution loss factors
Distribution-network directory · FY 2025–26 and FY 2026–27
585 source rows for FY 2025–26; 606 for FY 2026–27. Each year uses its own uploaded AEMO workbook. These are class/site records, not counts of generators or unique physical sites. Fixed snapshot; automatic updates are not connected.
12 cells across the two workbooks are blank or contain text rather than numeric factors. They remain visible and are never filled with another year’s value. Displayed factors use five decimal places; record details and CSV preserve full stored precision. Coverage, sources & versions.

Sources, method and limitations
DLF is different from MLF
DLF relates distribution connection points to their transmission connection point or virtual transmission node. MLF relates transmission connection points to the regional reference node. Both are dimensionless factors; they are not interchangeable measured loss percentages.
Choose the applicable network, code and financial year. An NMI can identify a site-specific record; network and tariff records may have no NMI. Codes can repeat across different records, so the directory preserves each workbook row separately.
Record-type groups follow source tables: embedded-generation tables 5, 11, 14, 20 and 26; network/tariff tables 1, 3, 9, 13, 17, 18, 22, 24 and 27; other data tables are site-specific/individual. Original table names and network labels remain in details and downloads. These are table groups, not fuel classifications.
The import reads only the “DLF to apply” column for each workbook’s own year. Seven FY 2026–27 Jemena cells contain formulas linked to an external workbook; their published cached results are retained, with formula provenance in CSV. No external inputs are recalculated. Text such as KCS is not resolved into a numeric factor. Non-data sheet annotations are retained in the dataset JSON.
FY 2026–27 workbook version control says version 1 dated 1 April 2026; AEMO’s source listing says 31 March 2026. These separate dates are retained. The FY 2025–26 workbook has no version-control sheet. Checksums identify the supplied copies; they do not certify that the files are the latest revision or that every source cell is correct.
Short observations from the snapshot. Evidence first, with the limits left visible.
GREEN ENERGY
Q2 2026: wind earned less, but the market fell further
Wind and solar captured prices fell year on year, but wholesale prices fell almost by half. Why the capture ratio, not the headline price, is the number to track for PPAs.

Queensland’s negative prices did not take winter off
Queensland spent five times longer below zero than NSW in August 2026. What that means for retailers, Solar Sharer and storage. Regional data from October 2025 to September 2026.
These are two published monthly averages for Queensland. A monthly change does not explain its cause, predict the next month or measure a generator’s capture price.

DATA LITERACY
An MLF is a factor, not a price
0.9704 Coopers Gap · FY 2026–27
AEMO reports a marginal loss factor of 0.9704 for Coopers Gap Wind Farm (COOPGWF1), compared with 0.9691 in its FY 2025–26 comparison column.
The change is +0.0013 factor units. It is not a 0.0013 dollar price movement. Revenue analysis also needs generation, prices, contracts and the applicable settlement arrangements.

Coverage and limits
Green Energy provides NEM quarterly renewable generation summaries, published wind and solar captured spot prices, and regional negative-price hour profiles. PPA transaction prices and forward forecasts are not available. Captured spot prices should never be relabelled as PPA prices.
SOURCES & METHODS
Useful data starts with honest definitions.
Where the numbers come from, what we changed, and what they can tell you.
1. What “monthly price” means here
The electricity price series reproduces AVGRRP from AEMO’s official monthly average price CSVs. It is a published, time-weighted regional average in nominal AUD/MWh. The five series are NSW1, QLD1, VIC1, SA1 and TAS1. NSW1 includes the ACT; WA, NT and the former Snowy region are outside this dataset.
Coverage starts in July 2005. Only complete calendar months are displayed. Dates follow NEM market time, fixed AEST (UTC+10), rather than daylight-saving local time. AEMO’s monthly CSV date is the month-end date; we convert it to YYYY-MM. Source values are retained numerically and shown to two decimal places.
We do not independently reconstruct every monthly average or calculate a national aggregate. This is not a demand-weighted average, retail tariff, settlement invoice, generator capture price or PPA transaction index. Peak-hour price (PEAKRRP) is not used. Negative prices are retained without clipping.
2. Calculations and historical intervals
The chart’s first-to-last percentage is (last / first − 1) × 100, shown only when the first price is positive. Otherwise the page shows an absolute AUD/MWh change. A single month has no comparison. Month-to-month percentage comparisons follow the same rule.
NEM settlement moved from 30-minute to five-minute intervals on 1 October 2021. Our source is AEMO’s published monthly series across that change. Raw interval spot checks use the applicable interval length, fixed AEST and interval-ending timestamps: after the start of the month, through midnight at the start of the next month. Only TRADE rows are included; no forecast rows, interpolation or missing-interval replacement.
3. Updating and preserving verified data
This site publishes reviewed historical datasets. Data is updated through reviewed releases, not on each visit. Automatic source checks and alerts are not currently enabled.
Data coverage, recorded verification dates and publication dates describe the retained snapshot; they do not imply a new source check. Changes to published data require publishing a new verified snapshot.
4. MLF directory and technology labels
590 unique DUIDs are retained from all generation and bidirectional-unit tables in AEMO’s FY 2026–27 MLF report, version 3 (22 July 2026). Separate load TNI tables are excluded. A DUID identifies a dispatch unit or aggregate, not necessarily one physical site, and appearance in this report does not confirm current operation. NSW1 includes ACT.
FY 2025–26 values are the report’s comparison column, not a reconstruction of factors applied throughout that earlier year. The published revisions effective 1 July 2026 are used for Corowa and Wandoan South solar farms. Shared DUID station names are retained as aliases. Bidirectional import and export factors, and Basslink directional entries, remain separate.
Technology is a conservative editorial grouping using explicit report names and matched AEMO or operator asset lists; it is not a live registration classification. Each row links its classification evidence. Storage includes batteries, hybrid bidirectional units and identified pumped hydro. Auxiliary loads and interconnectors are separate; unconfirmed technologies, including some thermal and bioenergy facilities, remain Other / Unclassified. Fuel filters may therefore omit unconfirmed units of that technology.
Names, DUIDs, connection point IDs, TNI codes, voltage, report page and version are retained. Two annual values for the selected direction are shown as separate bars, with no implied interpolation. MLFs can be revised; check the applicable official data for settlement use. This fixed MLF snapshot is not changed by the price updater.
5. Quality checks and traceability
Every month must contain exactly one value for each of the five included regions. Missing months, duplicates, unexpected regions, invalid dates and non-numeric values block publication. Source CSVs and SHA-256 checksums are retained for audit. Checksums identify the retrieved bytes; they do not certify the underlying data’s accuracy.
Independent checks compare selected regional monthly averages with their full interval RRP files, including periods before and after the five-minute change. These are spot checks, not validation of every raw interval in the historical series. Errors remain possible; consult the linked official source when relying on a result.

Why this project exists
Public energy data is useful, but finding the right files and understanding their definitions takes time. Energy Data Hub brings selected datasets together with clear charts, free downloads and source-linked explanations.
The free foundation includes regional electricity prices, an MLF directory, renewable-energy summaries, negative-price indicators, a lightweight historical PPA price comparison and published quarterly gas prices. A DLF directory covers FY 2025–26 and FY 2026–27, with network, state and record-type filters, source-cell details and CSV downloads.
The current datasets use public AEMO material. Each dataset links to its source, coverage, methodology and limitations. Original sources retain their own copyright and reuse conditions; presenting their data here does not transfer ownership to Steve Fan.
This is a personal project, not an official publication or a service affiliated with or endorsed by AEMO, AER, any employer or another energy-market organisation. Figures are historical general information, not personalised trading, investment or procurement advice.
Data quality and corrections
Dates, definitions and source versions matter. Use the linked source and methodology when checking a value. A checksum identifies a retained file or dataset; it does not guarantee that the underlying figures are error-free. When documenting a discrepancy, retain the dataset name, market or unit, period, displayed value and source reference.
A possible commercial future
Future professional tools could include documented analysis templates or a more complete Solar PPA model, if users demonstrate a clear need and source permissions support the intended use. These are ideas to validate, not products currently for sale.
